Argentina beat Costa Rica, reach quarters

Buenos Aires. Messi and Argentina salvaged pride as the hosts thumped Costa Rica 3-0 to make it to the last 8 in the Copa America Cup. Argentina, hosting their first major tournament after the 1978 World Cup, were staring at an early exit if they would have failed to beat Costa Rica by a reasonable margin.

The hosts and their star footballer Lionel Messi were facing intense flak for a below par performance after they drew their first two games with Bolivia and Colombia. Finally Argentina pulled up their socks with Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero scoring two goals while Angel Di Maria finished things off with one just after the clock ticked the hour mark.

Argentina found some much needed spring in their tale after Coach Batista bit the bullet, benching Carlos Tevez and putting Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain up front, allowing Messi to do what he does best, setting up goals.

Messi, who almost free flowingly scores for Barcelona, didn’t score himself but created ample opportunities for others, if Real Madrid star Higuain haven’t had missed a couple of chances, the score line must have at least been double.
