Ishant rattles Windies before rain interrupts

Barbados. In a day heavily curtailed by regular rain interruptions and bad light scenarios, Ishant Sharma wrecked early havoc in the West Indian camp before Marlon Samuels and Shivnarain Chandrapaul resorted to old fashioned defensive batting to frustrate India through their 19.3 over partnership and scored 41 runs.

After being reduced to 30 for three in the first day chasing India’s 201 in the first Innings, overnight batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan(18) and Devendra Bishoo(13) were undone by some great pace bowling from Ishant and Praveen. However, both the wickets went to Ishant, first Bishoo edged one outside the off stump to Kohli at gully. Two balls later, Sarwan was caught plumb on an inswinger which kept low.

Earlier, a brisk shower delayed the start of the game by 45 minutes. There was another break of half an hour after lunch but the resumption lasted just eight overs and play never got underway after that throughout the day.

Leaving the West Indies 82 for 5 from 29 overs. Samuels (21) and Chanderpaul (20) remained unbeaten.
